American Jewish Year Book Articles

The Berman Jewish DataBank at the Jewish Federations of North America is pleased to have received permission from the editors of the American Jewish Year Book, and its publisher, the American Jewish Committee Until 2009), to continue to post articles on America's Jewish population and demographics that were originally published in the Year Book.  These articles had appeared consistently in the Year Book since 1949 and are an invaluable source of data. In addition to the population articles published from 1949 through 2008, DataBank users may wish to see statistics from 1899-1900 as well as from 1927-1928 which are also available below.  (Other articles from the Year Book are also available as digital versions of all years on the AJC site.)

In 2009, the American Jewish Committee decided to cease publication of the Year Book and the Jewish population estimates. In 2010, by agreement with the editors of the Year Book, the Data Bank - -  then the Berman Institute - North American Jewish Data Bank at the University of Connecticut - -  began to issue Jewish population estimates for the USA and for the World, following the model developed in the Year Book and with the approval of the American Jewish Committee.

The North American Jewish Data Bank at the University of Connecticut issued reports on U.S. Jewish population and the world's Jewish population since 2010: Jewish Population in the United States, 2010 by Ira Sheskin and Arnold Dashefsky , World Jewish Population, 2010  by Sergio DellaPergola and Jewish Population in the United States, 2011 (Sheskin, Dashefsky) in its Current Jewish Population Reports series.

Since 2012, publication of the American Jewish Year Book has been assumed by Springer Publishers, with Arnold Dashefsky and Ira Sheskin as co-editors.  The U.S. and World Jewish Population articles continue to be issued under the combined editorship of Dashefsky, Sergio DellaPergola and Ira Sheskin.  They are reprinted with the permission of Springer, usually a few months after the Year Book is available for purchase.  The Berman Jewish DataBank at The Jewish Federations of North America is the successor to the North American Jewish Data Bank at the University of Connecticut.  The DataBank is pleased to publish these articles with Spinger's permission.

In this framework, Drs. Sheskin and Dashefsky have published Jewish Population in the United States 2012Jewish Population in the United States 2013Jewish Population in the United States 2014, Jewish Population in the United States, 2015., and United States Jewish Population, 2016 .

Dr. DellaPergola has published World Jewish Population 2012, World Jewish Population 2013, World Jewish Population 2014World Jewish Population 2015 and World Jewish Population, 2016.

Charles Shahar has recently added reports on Canada's Jewish population to the Year Book series with articles on Jewish Population in Canada, 2015 and the Canadian Jewish Population, 2016
